Hess Engineering: Metalforming Technologies

Applications : Camshafts

Camshafts control the opening and closing of the valves in an internal combustion engine. They typically consist of multiple cam lobes machined or presses on a long shaft. Machining, pressing and subsequent heat treating, to achieve desired hardness characteristics, cause these shaft to distort from their true axis of rotation. Straightening at the bearing journals must be done prior to finish grinding of those surfaces.

Our straightening technologies provide both manual and fully automated solutions for straightening these parts.
