Applications : Aerospace/Military

Cylindrical shaped components are commonly used in aerospace and military applications. These devices range from medium/heavy projectiles for field ordinance to missiles and rockets to various reusable engine components.
The metalforming processes offered by Hess Engineering are a perfect match for the production of these components. For lighter duty applications, where material thickness can remain constant, without affecting the final performance goals, our single and two roll spinning machines can be used to add “O” ring grooves, recesses and/or tapers where needed. For heavier load capacity components, our two and three roll flowforming systems can take a short thick wall tube and create a long finished component with a profiled cross section that addresses the weight saving requirements of the application.
Depending on the application parameters, the above spinning and flowforming processes yield generally acceptable diameter and roundness tolerances. Where tighter requirements are needed, Hess Engineering’s shrinking and expanding technologies can provide the desired results.
