Hess Engineering: Metalforming Technologies

Applications : Off-Road/Commercial Vehicles

Applications for this market segment closely resemble smaller automotive passenger car requirements. A wide variety of shafts are used as powertrain components. Sophisticated exhaust and emission control systems range from catalytic converters and particulate filters, to limit harmful emissions, to resonators, to lower operational noise levels. Wheels and braking systems must be extremely durable, yet light in weight as well. Other miscellaneous components also require specialized metalforming operations.

The metalforming processes offered by Hess Engineering are well-suited for the manufacturing of these components. Specifically:

  • Machined and assembled shafts experience distortion during heat treating and assembly operations. Our manual and automatic straightening machines are used to remove those distortions prior to the final operations on those parts.
  • Older multiple piece converters, particulate filters and resonators can now be replaced with one-piece designs using our spinforming technologies.
  • A wide range of high-quality, wheel and braking products can be produced on our wheel and rim machines.
  • Specialty components, such as gas tank filler necks, can be manufactured on our 1-Roll, 2-Axis Tube Spinformers.
