Production Spinforming Cell

Purpose

To reduce tube ends to a specified diameter.

Description

Hess production spinforming cells can be configured with several different material handling/automation options. The most common configuration uses (2) spinforming machines to reduce the tube ends to a specified diameter. The concentric tube spinner clamps the O.D. of the shell/substrate assembly and rotates the part while the CNC controlled roller tool reduces the end diameter. Additionally, inner cones can be inserted during the forming process to become part of the entire assembly. Part trimming or Hess’ patented length control options are available to provide part length tolerances required for subsequent processing.

For parts sensitive to rotation or if offset and/or oblique reduced end orientation is required, the static workholding spinner is used. Rather than rotate the work piece, a set of roller tools revolves around a non-rotating clamped work piece. The work piece clamp assembly is part of a CNC controlled slide system that provides feed and orientation. Online part length trimming is available as an option.

Hess spinformers can also be configured to produce a reduced section of the shell to allow for midbed HEGO sensor placement. This application is desired when the HEGO boss must remain below the shell O.D. Load/unload options include manual operation, semi automatic configurations, as well as full automatic robot automation depending on user operating preference.
