Rotary Sizer (Patent Pending)

Purpose

The rotary sizer is used to reduce the diameter of the shell before or after insertion of the substrate. The rotary sizer method reduces the shell diameter "spring back" normally found with other shell reduction methods.

Hess Rotary Sizer

Description

The Rotary Sizer loader presents the assembly to a pusher arm. The pusher arm is advanced and loads the assembly into the Rotary Sizer funnel guide. Once the assembly is trapped, the loader returns to receive the next assembly. Simultaneously the pusher is advanced until the can assembly is in contact with the rotary die set. The rotary die set is at the predetermined calibrated diameter as the tube starts through. The can continues through until the forward limit of the pusher is reached. A collapsing pusher assembly will allow the pusher arm to push the can all the way through the die set. Once clear of the die set the dies will be opened in preparation for the next can and the pusher arm is retracted. When the sized assembly clears the die set, it is released to an exit chute.
