Products : Straightening Machines : Crack Detection

The occurrence of a crack during the straightening process results in a significant release of energy that emanates through the part to the tooling that supplies the straightening force. Sensors mounted to the straightening hammer tooling detect this energy release, identifying it as a crack condition. Upon detection of a cracked part, the straightening cycle will be aborted, the centers will retract and the operator will be signaled to manually remove the part from the straightening station.

QASS.Net CiS.01 crack detector system

The QASS.Net CiS.01 crack detector system is an automatic crack detection system designed to detect cracks and breaks in workpieces, while under mechanical load. It consists of a main signal processor, a pre-amplifier, a piezo electric sensor for each hammer, and all interconnecting hardware. The control is mounted in the main electrical cabinet for easy monitoring by the operator.

The QASS.Net CiS 0.1 controller retains measurement data on the last 400,000 parts (up to 2,500,000 straightening strokes). This data can be readily viewed, using the included off-line development software, providing actual measurements for setting detection limits and documentation of the process performance, on a shift-by-shift basis. Use of this feature requires a capable computer with an Ethernet connection.

With the purchase of this option, one (1) day of field service support for tuning of crack detection parameters and one (1) day of field service support for training on use of crack detection system are included in the purchase price.
