Purpose
Hess-MAE's ASV straightening machines are specifically designed for the straightening of long, yet relatively small diameter parts. A high degree of flexibility allows this equipment to address the needs associated with small batch runs and diverse part characteristics.

Description
Hess-MAE's ASV series straightening machines are tailored to the unique requirements of large part manufacturers. Forces up to 10,000 kN, workpiece lengths up to 20,000 mm and diameters up to 500 mm are accommodated. Stationary drive tooling and measuring probes determine the overall straightening requirements of the part. A moving straightening ram with integral tooling then positions over the entire length of the part to straighten where necessary to apply the required straightening forces. Hess-MAE's Varius straightening process (see below) employs both conventional 3-point straightening and an astonishingly simple 4-point method to deal with complex part distortions.
Varius Straightening Method
The straightening controller evaluates workpiece deformation using continuous measuring and straightening technology. Depending on the nature of the deformation, the positions and spacing of the hammers and anvils is determined.
Short-bent deformations are straightened by pushing the hammers together and applying the 3-point straightening process.

For medium and long-bent deformations, the hammers are separated, the anvil spacing is increased, and the new 4-point straightening process is applied.

Advantages
- Minimal floor space
- Reduced cycle times
- Low tooling costs (only two straightening anvils)
- Easy load/unload access
- Minimal set up time
