Desprue Machine

Purpose

The purpose of the desprue machine is to drill hub holes in cast aluminum wheels.

Description

Machine components are mounted on a fabricated steel frame. A single drill head travels vertically on two linear guide rails; the drill head is raised and lowered via a ball screw driven by a servo motor. The drill head is counterbalanced by two pneumatic cylinders. A spindle assembly is mounted on the drill head; the spindle is driven via an AC motor and a gear belt. A pneumatically actuated clamp plate is guided by the drill head; two cylinders raise and lower the clamp plate.

Machine functions are controlled by an Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1500 programmable control; machine components can be manually or automatically operated through a Nematron PowerView PV‑570SN operator interface. All necessary control components, switches, sensors, actuators, safety devices, and wiring are incorporated.

A pneumatic system is provided for certain machine functions. The pneumatic system consists of manual lockout valves, directional valves, actuators and all necessary filters, regulators, flow controls, tubing and fittings.
