Profiling System

The Profiling System consists of a series of machines linked by part transfer systems that progressively form a smooth, coiled and welded band into a contoured band that resembles the shape of a finished rim. The first machine in the system is the Horizontal Flare Press or Flaring Die Pack. The Flare Press is a horizontal machine with automatic load/unload automation usually used in high production applications. The Flaring Die Pack is used in lower production applications and often mounted in a Buyer supplied vertical press. Following the flaring of the rim band the band enters the first rollformer of a set of three. The rollformers can be either Open-End Rollformers or Double-End Rollformers. The Open-End Rollformers can be either manual or automatic machines, while the Double-End Rollformers are always automatic. The rollformers use a set of upper and lower tooling to progressively shape the welded band into a rim. After the welded band is shaped into a rim, it is processed by a Horizontal Expander or Expanding Mandrel. The Expander is a horizontal machine with automatic load/unload automation usually used in high production applications while the Expanding Mandrel is used in lower production applications and often mounted in a buyer-supplied vertical press. Following the expanding operation, the formed and sized rim is transferred into a Rim Valve Hole Machine.
