Rim Valve Hole Machine

Purpose

To produce, in three operations, valve holes in heavy and light truck rims. If orientation relative to the weld is required, it must be performed manually. The remaining operations are automatic.

Description

This unit consists of a short powered roll infeed conveyor, automation for loading and unloading the work station, a heavy duty five-station rotary index table with provisions for fixturing to hold the rims, three hydraulically actuated special presses for valve hole processing and an exit conveyor.

Automatic loading and unloading. The automatic loading and unloading equipment includes the infeed conveyor, which is intended to receive the product with the piercing plane in the downward position. An operator orients the weld and initiates the start of the cycle. A hydraulically actuated cross-shuttle moves the product in to the loading position, while simultaneously removing the previously processed part.

Rotary Index Table. The rotary index table includes provisions for five product nests. Each nest has a pneumatically actuated clamping mechanism which grips the product on the well O.D. The table is raised for rotation and then lowered to the work piece by a hydraulic cylinder. The rims move parallel to the floor during all phases of the operation.

The five stations of the index table position the products for the following operations: 1) Load, 2) Emboss, 3) Pierce, 4) Coin, and 5) Unload.

Changeover from one product to another includes adjustment of the infeed conveyor, changeover and adjustment of the shuttle, installation of the changeover clamps on the index table, installation of the appropriate punch and coin details and adjustment of the positions and angles of the press stations.

Electric and hydraulic controls conform to the appropriate plant standards and JIC specifications. Electric control circuit logic is by Allen Bradley programmable controller.
