Technologies : Rollforming

For over 30 years Hess Engineering has been building rollformers to profile rims and other circular components for the agricultural, automotive, construction, and transportation industries. When rollforming circular components, such as wheel rims and brake drums, profiled tooling presses a cylindrical band against a mating profiled mandrel to form the desired part profile. The part and tooling rotate, allowing 360 degree forming of the profile. In most cases, forming is done in stages on multiple machines with flaring and expanding or shrinking operations done to pre-form the blank and final size the completed part.
Why Hess?
Rollforming has been a core technology for Hess Engineering since the company’s beginnings in 1976. The experienced knowledge we have accumulated allows us to optimize tooling and machine designs to provide a robust, reliable process. We understand and account for the forming characteristics of various materials. We also address critical issues such as machine deflections and speed matching to minimize scuffing of finished part surfaces.
What Can Hess Rollforming Technology Do For You?
- Improve process
- Improve repeatability
- Reduce scrap
